I understand that there is a formula, an equation, you have to use to come up with the 3 point perspective look, but can the points be placed anywhere?

Ive been working with points lately and its difficult for me to get past 3, because I feel my creations dont look proper.....

Can you help me mate?! This piece, though simple is wonderfully drawn, and I would like to even just doodle like this once.
Thank you!
Cheers! ~JM2

There is a formula but I hate it:)
I tend to arbitrarily put my points out there and sketch a bit to find the right feel ... It's more of a zen thing for me. There are mental giants out there that love the proper way to do things. I like to approach it like art not science. Remember that most of the time you can get away with 2 point and have a wonderful composition. 3 point is only good for worms eye and birds eye views.
Thanks for your kind words... you rock.

Thankies! ^__^

I have found the formula, and tried it various times.
I am having a hard time distinguishing between 2 and three point perspectives, which is a good thing then because they are so closely related.

The "formula" is a bit difficult to grasp, Im still learning it, but Im getting it.
I have made some AWESOME sketches with it, so Im going to keep trying!

Thank you for your deviation, a great inspiration.

very nice! i've been experimenting with this type of perspective, but i just cant seem to pull it together.... i just cant figure out where to place the vanishing points. do you have any tips or rules that you follow in making this type of perspective? it would really help me a lot =D

Sho- No prob. It is a total guessing game. The hardest thing is getting those horizon points to work out. I tend to sneak them in close to the element and toward the bottom third (for worm's eye view) and the upper third for bird's eye. The best advice is just to do a BUNCH of sketchy comps... don't invest a ton of time in them so that if the final sucks... you didn't waste any time!
Good luck.
Thanks for the input.

hmnnn... thats a good suggestion, so you're saying that i have to get the "feel" of it first. and do some practice drafts. thanks! that advice cleared some confusion. many thanks again :worship:
